About
There are 400,000 young people in Scouting, spread across five age ranges: Squirrels, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and the Scout Network. Each age range has its own balanced programme of activities, badges and awards. The 5th Potters Bar Scout Group has been serving the local community, providing skills for life and creating memories for our young people since 1939. Learn more about our history here.

Squirrels 4 to 5
Squirrels is our early years section for children aged 4 and 5. Sessions are short, lively and packed with fun – stories, games, outdoor play, creative activities and chances to build confidence and friendships. It’s a brilliant introduction to the adventure of Scouting.
Beavers 6 to 8
Beaver Scouts are our youngest members beyond Squirrels. They meet weekly to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities. They also have the chance to enjoy the excitement of camps and sleepovers – often their first night away from home.
Cubs 8 to 10 1⁄2
Cubs take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub meeting includes games, skills and plenty of time outdoors. Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year, giving young people independence and adventure.
Scouts 10 1⁄2 to 14
Outdoor activities feature strongly in the Scout Troop, with camping as a major highlight. Throughout the year, Scouts learn skills such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid. Rock climbing, gliding, water activities, photography and international experiences are all part of the journey.
Leaders
Our team of adult leaders is made up of dedicated local volunteers – the people who make Scouting happen near you. For most of the week they are business executives, engineers, plumbers, nurses, teachers and many more, but the rest of the time they are the heart of what we do. If you’d like to explore becoming a leader or occasional helper, contact the Team here.
You!
All over the UK, parents help out at their local Scout Group. You might come to a meeting to make tea, drive young people to an activity, or lend a hand at a camp. Whatever you choose, we’re always glad to see you – and you’ll enjoy it. Contact the Team here.
